The Dead Don’t Dance by Charles Martin is a powerful book. Captivating and  completely engrossing are two phrases that come to mind when I think of this book.  Set in a small town in South Carolina, Dylan and Maggie Styles are expecting their first child. Tragedy in the delivery room leaves Maggie in a coma and Dylan unsure how to handle things now.

Throw in the responsibilities of a farm to run, a new job as a professor at local college and spending time in Maggie’s hospital room and Dylan’s life is nearly unbearable.  He has an interesting set of students in his class and an even more interesting set of friends.  I have so much I want to say about this book, but Charles Martin, the author, has woven such a tale that the more I say, the more I fear I will give something away. Let me just say that if you haven’t read a Charles Martin book yet, you are greatly missing out.  Every twist is completely unexpected and every character is so rich and human that you feel as if you really know these people. Wonderful book and even more exciting is the new release of the sequel to this book titled, Maggie.
