Six months after the birth of her daughter, Heidi Elliot is near her whit’s end from the demands of motherhood. With her maternity leave running out and the prospect of juggling teaching Spanish at the High School while raising her daughter and caring for her house and her husband, Jake who owns and operates the local paint store, it just doesn’t seem like it is all possible. Nothing seems the way it was before the birth of baby Nora. At work, substitute teacher Ms. Stillwell feels like a failure, Jake seems to spend more time with his new client Jana van Fleet, and Heidi’s former live in lover Ben Cooper has moved into the neighborhood while the new parents have less and less of a relationship between them. With a push from her husband, Heidi joins the Mom’s Group from church where she meets other mothers and some very interesting characters. This is a great look at how much a family can change with the birth of a child, how the parents adjust and their relationship molds into something a bit different than before the baby, and how certain friendships are born just out of sheer need. I found this an easy and enjoyable read. A great light-hearted book that will hit home with many working mothers.![]()
