In Oceans Apart, we learn of a single flight attendant raising her young son in Hawaii when she dies in a plane crash and the boy is left alone. When the will of the mother is read it states one thing, that Max stay two weeks with his father before he is given over as a ward to the state. The father, Connor Evans, doesn’t even know he has a son. He is living in Florida with his wife, Michelle and their two daughters. As Conner learns of his son’s existence, we are given a unique perspective of a man torn about his guilt and his feelings of responsibilities for this child who has no one else in the world. We also see the torment of his wife, Michelle, who has to deal with the fact that her husband was unfaithful. But what this family did not expect was the wonderful boy that would steal their hearts and would make them question everything. I felt this book was a painful look at how love, forgiveness, and even undisclosed sin can change more lives than we ever expected. Captivating and well played out, I though several times that I figured out where Karen Kingsbury was heading only to be surprised with where she took these characters.![]()
