In Vital Signs, the third book in the Baxter Series, the story centers around some of our worst fears. Missionaries return from the remote area of the Amazon basin wrecked with fever, delirium, and sweating blood. As Blake and Melissa Thomas are rushed to Baxter Memorial Hospital, officials there do not know what this disease is so they call for help from the Center for Disease Control. Upon their arrival, they quarantine everyone from this certain wing of the hospital, which includes Jennifer Wilson and her newborn twins. As the twins are released and cared for by a mysterious man, the reader begins to question his motives. Then a local gang, for lack of a better word, causes havoc on the hospital just to further complicate matters. Several of the families we have come to love through the past two books surface once again and we see their faith being tested as loved ones are struggling for their life battling against an unknown disease. This book was difficult to put down, certainly suspenseful and rewarding to read.![]()
