In Traveling Light, Max Lucado brings to life the 23rd Psalm like only he can do. Comparing Christians with weary travelers, Lucado likens our burdens to luggage. "You stepped over the baggage carousel and loaded up. Don't remember doing so? That's because you did it without thinking. Don't remember seeing a baggage terminal? That's because the carousel is not the one in the airport; it's the one in the mind. And the bags we grab are not made of leather; they're made of burdens." By unpacking the Psalm, the reader is led to lie down, among others, the burdens of fear, doubt, discontent and grief. The study guide in the back provides the opportunity to take each chapter and dig a little deeper both through scriptures and through personal challenges. Lucado offers honesty and humor in a way that does not put the reader on the defenses but rather at ease. What I liked most about this book is that every single person can find several chapters that would fit into their lives right now. Yet, pull this book out in a year or so and many will find that other chapters might be more appropriate then. I think this will become a timeless classic that can be enjoyed and read over and over again.![]()
